![]() For five years The Oakland Zoo in California has generously assisted the work of Africa Matters where out missions are in tandem. They have generously provided us With a wonderful venue for our "African Bush Dinner" fund raising events in 2007 and 2008. THE NEXT ONE will be February 13,2010. In addition, through the conservation fund, they have Made grants to further the work of Ingonyama Dance and Drama group. Pathways:
Work with and for students and educators to develop programs stimulating dialogue to share knowledge of ecological problems and solutions to them. Particular attention will be given to awareness of the MUTUAL problems experience by all countries regarding the conservation of resources, preservation of habitats and wildlife.
Artists in the U.S. will be solicited to use their talents to promote this organization, to teach other artists, students and scientists what a powerful tool for outreach ART can and should be to teach everyone what is needed to preserve and conserve our resources. Future plans will facilitate the exchange of artists between Africa and America to solidify respect for all creative works and the cultures that nourish them.
All activities will be carried out under the auspices or with the advice of scientists both in the US and in Africa to assure that solutions to problems and information that is disseminated is timely and environmentally correct.
International Art and Poetry Contest (Visit their new HQ and GALLERY!! Down at 2525 8th Street in Berkeley for fabulous art and related products for sale). Plans for international entries we are facilitating: WILDLIFE CLUBS of KENYA: The Clubs hold an annual art contest that is highly competitive. This year they will be submitting some of their top winners to compete in the River of Words Contest. PAINTED DOG CONSERVATION - Children's Bush Camp: Early in 2004 the fabulous Bush Camp begins a teacher training program and after that the Camp will be opened. The curriculum for this conservation education program will incorporate the River of Words Contest. Though timing this first year will be tight, we hope that there will be some entries from Zimbabwe. The Education Director for Painted Dog, Bruce Lombardo, is enthusiastic about the possibilities for future artist's voices in the causes of conservation.
Get on the path: Africa matters is a pathway for conservation, ecology and biology classes and clubs, arts and photography organizations to make a difference. We would love to hear from anyone who is a student, a teacher, or member of any class or organization focused on conservation, ecology, biology, and art (including photography) to contact us. We know you have ideas, questions, expertise and we hope to make the network larger and strong to benefit all environments by all means. You can email or call.
